Nesting

Poured vinegar on my rice crispies the other day, ate the whole bowl, it added a lovely brightness (NOT). That should give you an indication on how life is proceeding. On the plus side, lawn gets mowed every week, we haven't missed a garbage collection and the guests continue to be cared for.

Tears still flow freely and I know that will continue for a while. I've gotten very comfortable saying to strangers I am interacting with, "please don't be alarmed if I start crying suddenly, I am ok, simply grieving" - working well so far.

The other big big news is an unexpected visitor. A friend gifted my mum the most beautiful, gigantic fuchsia plant in the spring, we got so much joy out of watching the flowers burst forth every morning. I hung it outside the kitchen window and it got a lot of attention, dutifully watering it, protecting it from harsh winds - it was well loved.

The day after my mum passed onto glory, a little bird started appearing in the kitchen window, we noticed her immediately and would start talking to her. Side note, we always teased my mum about her skinny legs and called her 'Bird Legs'. So when our new friend appeared we would burst into tears and start talking to Birdie. Yes, we did wonder if we were losing our minds and was talking to birds the first sign of craziness? Nonetheless, Birdie came by every day and we would call out a greeting and strike up a conversation.

A few weeks ago I noticed some yellowing leaves on the beautiful fuchsia plant, read up and gave it some food along with proper water amounts. And, every time I went to feel the dirt for dryness I'd see Birdie nestled down right in the middle of the plant, looking closer I realized she had built a nest IN MY FUCHSIA PLANT.

Incredulous, I thought maybe I had just seen some twigs in the middle of the plant and it wasn't a nest at all and maybe she was just staying cool from the sun. So I went out this morning to water my plant, Birdie was hidden right in the middle, she flew out and started squawking from about 2 feet away. I quickly backed off making quiet shushing sounds and assured mama I wouldn't touch her nest again until she was finished with it.

So now, we are hosting a new bird family, my fuchsia plant is not looking great, but we decided this morning on our walk that we would give Birdie all the time she needs to hatch her babies and hopefully when she's finished we can bring the plant back to life. In the years we have lived here, we have NEVER had a bird make a nest so close to the house. I am tempted to go out and dig up worms and leave them for Birdie but as vocal as she is, if she needs something I am convinced she will let us know.

Serious question, how long does nesting last does anyone know? She's not a Hummer, just a little sweet bird.

So while we navigate the journey, we've got Birdie reminding us of new life and promises that God is faithful, no matter what.

Hugs to you all, this is a blurry photo, I tried to get her photo but she was not happy with me this morning, just know that she's in there.
